Bulgaria is reportedly considering the acquisition of more than 100 “Centauros” counter-drone systems from Greece under the European Union’s SAFE (Security Action for Europe) defense funding framework. The Centauros system, developed by Hellenic Aerospace Industry, is designed to neutralize unmanned aerial threats primarily through electronic warfare techniques. SAFE, launched in May 2025, supports urgent defense investments to close capability gaps and strengthen Europe’s industrial base. The system has already been deployed by the Hellenic Navy aboard MEKO frigates, with plans for integration into FDI-class vessels. Cyprus is also evaluating Centauros for integration with its Barak MX air defense network.
