Colombia has taken a groundbreaking step in military aviation by revealing “Dragom,” its first domestically developed and manufactured military drone. Created by the Colombian Aeronautical Industry Corporation (CIAC), this UAV represents a significant advance in the country’s efforts to establish a self-sufficient defense technology base.
The Dragom system is built to perform both reconnaissance missions and precision strike operations, offering versatility in combat and surveillance scenarios. The drone is outfitted with high-resolution surveillance cameras, integrated flight control software, and a secure satellite-based navigation system, all designed for seamless autonomous operation. It can remain airborne for up to 90 minutes, enabling extended mission coverage.
Dragom made its first public appearance at the F-AIR Aeronautical Fair in Rionegro, showcasing Colombia’s capability to produce homegrown UAV solutions. This development underscores a strategic shift by the Colombian government to reduce dependency on foreign technology and enhance national security using locally engineered innovations.
