The US Army has chosen Edge Autonomy’s VXE30 Stalker uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) for the Long Range Reconnaissance (LRR) program’s prototype phase. This selection marks a key step in the Army’s effort to enhance its ability to conduct persistent surveillance and intelligence missions in diverse operational environments.

The LRR program is focused on acquiring a highly portable reconnaissance platform capable of operating in all weather conditions while delivering reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition (RSTA) capabilities. It will complement and expand the Army’s current inventory of battlefield reconnaissance systems, which already includes the hand-launched RQ-11 Raven from AeroVironment.

Under the agreement, Edge Autonomy, a subsidiary of Redwire Corporation, will provide the VXE30 Stalker equipped with advanced sensors, secure communications, autonomous navigation features, and modular payload options configured for specific mission needs.

Purpose-built for extended intelligence and surveillance operations in contested areas, the system will undergo Army field evaluations in the coming months to determine its suitability for long-term deployment.
