French defense startup Harmattan AI, headquartered in Paris, has secured a significant contract from the country’s military procurement agency (DGA) to deliver 1,000 artificial intelligence-powered combat drones. The drones will be delivered to the French Army in a phased schedule spanning from October to December.

These quadcopter micro-drones, designed and developed entirely by Harmattan AI, are built for use in both training and pre-deployment preparation of French military personnel. They are also expected to be deployed in large-scale joint military drills such as Orion 2026.

Each drone weighs 1.8 kilograms (approximately 4 pounds) and features autonomous functionality, modularity, and battlefield readiness. It is equipped with an electro-optical camera for visual reconnaissance and can optionally be outfitted with an infrared camera to enhance performance in low-light or night-time operations. The platform offers a flight range of 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) and an endurance of up to 40 minutes.
