Kosovo has unveiled an ambitious defense plan valued at over 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion) aimed at boosting the capabilities of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF). According to reports, the initiative places strong emphasis on building an indigenous “Made in Kosovo” drone program while also reviving the nation’s ammunition production facilities.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti outlined a broader vision that includes the creation of a joint military unit with the Albanian Armed Forces, signaling closer defense cooperation within the region. In addition to equipment acquisition, the plan covers training and education opportunities for KSF personnel both domestically and at prestigious international academies in NATO member states.
Recruitment also forms a central part of the modernization drive. The government aims to bring in new cadets, with a particular focus on gender inclusion by enlisting 1,000 women into the KSF ranks. Furthermore, a new national protection program will train voluntary reservists, equipping them with weapons and preparing them to support the armed forces in times of crisis.
Officials stress that these efforts are intended to bolster Kosovo’s partnership with NATO, enhance national security, and establish a foundation for greater self-reliance in defense production and military readiness.
