Taiwan is reconsidering a major counter-drone acquisition program after the selected systems failed to achieve expected military standards during evaluation trials. The NT$987.81 million contract with Tron Future was intended to strengthen Taiwan’s ability to defend sensitive locations against emerging drone threats.The planned system included 26 fixed-site platforms capable of detecting and electronically disrupting unmanned aerial vehicles. However, repeated testing failures created concerns about whether the technology could provide the required level of protection in real-world scenarios.The reported failure to identify an approaching commercial drone during testing has highlighted challenges in developing effective counter-UAS capabilities. As drone technology continues to evolve, defense forces worldwide are placing greater emphasis on reliable detection, tracking, and neutralization systems.
