The MTO-LP long-range loitering munition is being developed to meet the operational needs of France and other NATO allies. Designed for rapid deployment, the system can be set up by just two operators in under 30 minutes and offers a range of several hundred kilometers, with the potential for future extensions. The platform is capable of simultaneously launching up to 10 munitions for coordinated strikes and can be easily adapted for various mission profiles. Its platform-agnostic design simplifies transport, storage, and deployment logistics, especially in active operational zones.

Optimized for long-range precision strikes, the MTO-LP’s development roadmap targets initial operational capability by 2026 with plans to produce 1,000 warheads annually. By 2027, the system is expected to incorporate advanced counter-vulnerability measures, expanded mission flexibility, and a broader range of effectors for deep-strike operations. The first flight tests are scheduled for summer 2025.

This joint effort between Thales and Boreal will strengthen France’s defense industrial base, boost Boreal’s production capacity as a medium-sized enterprise, and open up further partnership opportunities in Belgium.
