The Indian Army has signed a landmark ₹6.6-billion ($75-million) contract with domestic defense manufacturer MKU Limited to supply 29,762 Netro NW 3000 Night Vision Weapon Sights. This deal is one of the largest electro-optics orders ever placed by the Army and was finalized under the Ministry of Defence’s emergency procurement authority. MKU emphasized that the contract falls within the Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured (IDDM) category, representing a substantial boost for India’s defense industrial base.

The Netro NW 3000 night vision system is engineered for standard assault rifles and enhances target engagement capabilities during nighttime and low-light operations. MKU highlighted that the products underwent rigorous field trials in multiple environments before selection, proving reliability, clarity, and ease of use under operational conditions. These sights are part of MKU’s expanding Netro Optronics division, developed to advance India’s night-fighting capabilities and operational flexibility.

This procurement is aligned with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative, which aims to strengthen indigenous defense manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports. India has accelerated such acquisitions, recently ordering BEL handheld thermal imagers, ideaForge drones, and Larsen & Toubro’s K9 Vajra self-propelled howitzers. MKU, already serving over 230 security agencies worldwide, confirmed its commitment to further indigenous investments and modernization, supporting the operational readiness of India’s armed forces.
