India has launched a procurement initiative for 159 bulletproof troop carriers to support the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles units operating in high-risk counterinsurgency regions. The vehicles are intended for deployment in mountainous and hostile terrains across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and northeastern sectors. The Army requires 4×4 armored platforms capable of balancing mobility, survivability, and troop transport while carrying weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment. Specifications include operation at altitudes up to 5,000 meters, performance in extreme temperatures from -10°C to 40°C, and both on-road and off-road mobility. The vehicles will also feature firing ports and roof-mounted machine gun positions for protected combat engagement. The acquisition aligns with India’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives to promote indigenous defense manufacturing and reduce foreign dependency.
