The US Army has approved a new order for Javelin anti-tank missiles, support equipment, and services under a $900.5-million contract extension. The agreement also includes sales to Brazil and Tunisia, marking their entry into the Javelin user community.
This deal builds on a May 2023 contract awarded to the Raytheon–Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture, which manufactures the system. Beyond Brazil and Tunisia, the latest package also covers foreign military sales to Australia, Bulgaria, and Estonia.
With deliveries, Brazil will become the first Javelin operator in South America, while Tunisia will be the first in North Africa. These additions complete the system’s operational footprint across all continents, underlining its global adoption.
Widely known for its battlefield performance, the man-portable Javelin system has been used by US forces in Afghanistan and Iraq and supplied as military aid to Ukraine. Featuring a fire-and-forget missile, a Command Launch Unit (CLU) with daylight and thermal optics, and a 25-pound missile capable of striking up to 4 kilometers, the Javelin remains one of the most reliable infantry anti-armor solutions in the world.
