Spain’s Indra is advancing a major upgrade to the Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile by redesigning its datalink architecture. The modernization seeks to extend communication range between the missile and launch aircraft while improving resistance to electronic warfare interference. Indra has submitted the enhanced system to MBDA and the Meteor program’s International Joint Project Office for evaluation and validation. By strengthening mid-course guidance, secure target updates, and encrypted data transmission, the upgrade aims to preserve the Meteor’s effectiveness in heavily contested electromagnetic environments, ensuring it remains a leading air superiority weapon against evolving aerial threats.
