TAURUS Systems, the joint venture between MBDA and Saab, has secured a contract from the German government to manufacture the next-generation TAURUS NEO stand-off missile, significantly enhancing Germany’s long-range deep strike capabilities. The agreement was signed with Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) and establishes a serial production line for the upgraded missile.
With a range exceeding 500 kilometers, the TAURUS NEO will enable the German Air Force to strike heavily defended targets while remaining outside hostile air defense envelopes. According to MBDA, the system will deliver a critical boost to both national and NATO deterrence, combining high-precision effects with advanced, modular missile architecture.
TAURUS NEO is designed as a next-generation precision stand-off weapon, optimized to defeat high-value and well-protected targets. Its modular design supports integration across multiple launch platforms, including aircraft, land-based systems, and potential naval applications, providing operational flexibility across different theaters of operation. Advanced navigation, target recognition, and counter-countermeasure capabilities ensure high survivability against sophisticated air defense networks.
Development of the missile’s new technologies began under a maintenance and modernization contract awarded in December 2024, accelerating system readiness. The latest contract expands production capacity and supports further capability growth, aligning with MBDA’s broader production ramp-up, which includes €2.4 billion in planned investments between 2025 and 2029.
