Raytheon has secured a $250 million agreement with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) for the licensed production of the Evolved SeaSparrow Missile (ESSM) Block 2 in Japan. Under this direct commercial sale, Raytheon will supply missile kits, parts, and technical assistance, while MELCO will handle manufacturing at its domestic facilities.

The collaboration boosts Japan’s indigenous missile production capabilities and strengthens its defense posture amid regional security concerns. The deal also deepens U.S.–Japan defense ties and broadens Raytheon’s presence in the Asia-Pacific defense sector.
