Norway’s Kongsberg Group has reached an agreement to acquire a controlling stake in US-based missile developer Zone 5 Technologies, strengthening its position in the rapidly growing market for low-cost, mass-producible precision weapons and counter-unmanned aerial systems. The acquisition supports Kongsberg’s strategy to expand its advanced strike and air defense portfolio amid rising global demand.

Under the deal, Kongsberg’s Defence and Aerospace division will acquire 90 percent ownership of the California-based company, while Zone 5’s existing management team will retain a minority stake. Although the financial details were not disclosed, the transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals, after which Zone 5 will continue operating as an independent subsidiary within the Kongsberg Group.

Founded in 2011, Zone 5 Technologies employs around 250 personnel and recorded more than $100 million in revenue in fiscal year 2025, reflecting its strong growth trajectory. Kongsberg highlighted that modern conflicts have underscored the importance of high-volume, affordable weapons capable of countering mass drone attacks and delivering long-range strike effects.

Zone 5’s product lineup includes the Rusty Dagger subsonic missile, the White Spike drone interceptor, and the Paladin tactical hexacopter system, all designed to offer scalable and cost-effective solutions. The acquisition positions Kongsberg to better address evolving battlefield requirements while enhancing its footprint in the US defense market.
