The US Air Force has awarded Lockheed Martin and Raytheon contracts worth nearly $7.8 billion to supply precision-guided munitions through foreign military sales to allied nations. Lockheed’s $4.29-billion share will fund the production of JASSM and LRASM missiles for Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, and Poland, with completion expected by January 2033.
Raytheon received up to $3.5 billion to manufacture AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, telemetry systems, spares, and support services for 18 allied countries, including Australia, Germany, Taiwan, and the UK. Work under this deal is scheduled to finish by fiscal Q3 2031.
The JASSM (Joint Air-To-Surface Standoff Missile) is a stealthy cruise missile with a 1,000-pound warhead and a range of over 230 miles—extendable to 575 miles in its advanced version. It can be deployed from platforms like the F-16, F/A-18, and B-52 bombers.
Meanwhile, the LRASM is a naval strike missile derived from the JASSM, optimized to engage enemy ships at over 200 nautical miles. Raytheon’s AMRAAM, a radar-guided air-to-air missile, supports fire-and-forget functionality and is deployable on aircraft like the F-35, Eurofighter, and F-16.
