MBDA has enhanced its MISTRAL 3 very short-range air defense missile, enabling it to effectively neutralize fast inshore attack craft (FIAC), which pose a growing threat to naval vessels. The new capability was validated during a final qualification test conducted in Spain.

These upgrades include advancements in flight control, guidance accuracy, and image processing. Notably, the system is now optimized for night operations, significantly expanding its tactical use. MBDA also revealed that the missile has already been tested against drones with low infrared visibility, including models similar to the Iranian-made Shahed.

According to the company, such threats are becoming increasingly common in modern warfare. The MISTRAL 3 stands out as the only combat-proven missile in its class that can counter these challenges effectively—both day and night.
