Nordic partners Sweden and Denmark have announced a 2.6 billion kronor ($290 million) air defense procurement for Ukraine, as the country continues to face large-scale Russian aerial bombardment.

Sweden will finance 2.1 billion kronor of the package, while Denmark will provide the remainder to deliver the TRIDON Mk2 mobile anti-aircraft artillery system, the two countries’ defense ministers said during a joint press conference.

The move comes amid continued pressure on Ukraine’s air defenses. An AFP analysis released this week showed that although Russia reduced the number of drones and missiles launched in January, strikes continued to severely damage Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

The ongoing disruption of electricity, heating, and water services has reached some of the most critical levels seen during the nearly four-year war, heightening the risk of a humanitarian emergency
