Raytheon has been awarded a contract worth $51.9 million by the US Marine Corps Systems Command for the production and delivery of Stinger air-to-air launchers. This agreement marks a key step in enhancing the U.S. military’s short-range air defense capabilities amid rising concerns over drone and low-flying aircraft threats.
In addition to the launchers, the contract includes a comprehensive support package. Raytheon will provide ancillary training equipment, engineering support for integration, and services to manage parts obsolescence. These measures are designed to ensure that the systems can be effectively integrated into current platforms and remain operational over time.
The newly procured launchers will bolster both the Ground Based Air Defense (GBAD) system and the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS). Both of these platforms rely on the Stinger missile as their primary weapon for defending against low-altitude airborne threats. Production will primarily take place in Tucson, Arizona, with additional work in Diné, New Mexico, and is expected to be completed by September 2026.
