Turkey has taken a significant leap in missile technology by unveiling the Tayfun Block-4, marking its official entry into the global hypersonic weapons arena. This advanced ballistic missile is designed for high-speed maneuverability and is built to evade sophisticated air defense systems, enhancing its survivability against contemporary aerial threats.
The Tayfun Block-4 represents an evolution of the original Tayfun short-range ballistic missile, which was first tested in 2022. The latest version incorporates several design improvements aimed at boosting tactical performance, including enhanced flight dynamics and more precise targeting capability.
According to Turkish defense reports, the missile is approximately 21 feet (6.5 meters) in length and has a launch weight of about 2.5 tons (2,300 kilograms). It uses solid composite propellant, which supports faster acceleration and stable flight. With this new system, Turkey positions itself among the growing list of nations pursuing hypersonic capabilities as a cornerstone of future military deterrence and strategic power projection.
