The United States has approved the transfer of 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles to Ukraine, in a package valued at roughly $850 million (€780 million). The program is largely financed by European nations, with the first shipments expected to arrive in Ukraine within six weeks.

The decision was finalized only after President Donald Trump’s meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, underscoring the diplomatic sensitivities surrounding the deal. The move highlights Washington’s continued commitment to reinforcing Ukraine’s long-range strike capabilities while balancing political pressures in the region.

The ERAM is a next-generation air-launched standoff missile designed to extend the strike range of NATO-standard fighter jets. Capable of hitting targets at 240–450 km depending on altitude and trajectory, the weapon offers Ukraine a significant operational edge in deep-strike missions.

With advanced guidance systems, the ERAM is engineered to operate effectively in electronic warfare environments, allowing it to neutralize both fixed and mobile targets. By enabling Ukrainian aircraft to launch strikes without entering heavily defended airspace, the system significantly enhances both effectiveness and survivability in combat operations.
