The US Defense Logistics Agency has awarded Metallus a contract valued at up to $995 million for the supply of specialty steel for defense applications. The agreement will support the US Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force through September 2031.An initial delivery order worth approximately $125 million was issued alongside the contract. Metallus is required to complete each individual order within 24 months. The Ohio-based company will provide High Fragmentation 1 Steel, which is used in the production of large-caliber artillery and mortar ammunition, including 155mm shells. The procurement supports Pentagon efforts to rebuild US ammunition stocks and increase domestic manufacturing capacity. Before receiving the contract, Metallus had already expanded its Canton facility with new reheating, rolling and automated saw equipment designed to increase production of metal components for 155mm ammunition. The US Army supported that expansion with $99.75 million in funding.
