Kopin Wins $18.6M US Army Deal for Colour MicroLED Displays — Kopin has secured an $18.6-million US Army award to develop colour MicroLED displays for soldiers and pilots, bringing its total funding under the program to $34 million. The sole-source contract will finance two additional display configurations for ground personnel and aviators while supporting MicroLED manufacturing in the United States. The technology is being developed for military visual systems requiring high brightness, low power consumption, and durability, with potential applications in soldier-worn displays, pilot heads-up displays, weapon sights, and helmet-mounted systems. Kopin CEO Michael Murray said the funding would help the company develop displays tailored to specific Army equipment and mission requirements, although the company has not disclosed a delivery schedule or identified the systems that will use the new configurations. The company is also expanding its defence technology portfolio across soldier vision systems, thermal imaging, and drone goggles. In July, Kopin achieved three development milestones under a US Army-backed program for full-colour MicroLED displays intended to support digital overlays and improve battlefield situational awareness. In May, it secured a $21.5-million contract for thermal imaging assemblies used in a portable military weapon system, covering custom eyepiece assemblies, microdisplays, optics, drive electronics, and ruggedised housings. Earlier, in April, Kopin received an initial $3.2-million contract to supply optical modules for a next-generation first-person-view drone goggle system, a program with potential deliveries of up to 40,000 units by 2028 through an unnamed partner.
