Defence Research and Development Organisation is developing a 300 kW directed energy laser weapon with a range of up to 20 km. Built by Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences, the system uses high-energy laser beams for precision targeting of drones, missiles, and aerial threats. It features advanced beam control, high coherence (M² < 2), and modular scalability to higher power levels. The mobile system offers rapid engagement, low cost per shot, and deep magazines, making it ideal for countering swarm threats. However, challenges such as thermal management and atmospheric interference remain key focus areas.
