A United Nations peacekeeping base in Am Dafock, located near the border between Sudan and the Central African Republic, came under attack from armed groups linked to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and former Seleka rebels. The assault targeted a MINUSCA facility, resulting in injuries to three Zambian peacekeepers, one of whom was seriously wounded. Local officials reported additional casualties during the attack, highlighting the severity of the incident. The United Nations strongly condemned the raid, stating that such attacks on peacekeepers could amount to war crimes under international law. The region has long been unstable due to the presence of multiple armed factions operating across porous borders, especially in connection with the ongoing conflict in Sudan. There were also reports of retaliatory air operations carried out by allied forces, further escalating tensions in the area. The town of Am Dafock remains strategically significant due to its location on a conflict-sensitive border region, where armed group movements are frequent and security conditions remain fragile.
