Reliance Industries Limited and Rolls-Royce have announced their strategic intention to collaborate on the development of an indigenous combat aircraft engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. The proposed partnership would bring together Rolls-Royce’s experience in advanced propulsion with Reliance Industries’ manufacturing capabilities, technological resources, and industrial scale. The companies also plan to explore establishing a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India that could serve as a center for power and propulsion technologies. The proposed arrangement is aimed at creating an Indian capability covering the design, development, manufacturing, testing, production, and long-term support of advanced aircraft engines. It would contribute to India’s broader objective of achieving greater self-reliance in critical defense technologies. Both companies view the proposed collaboration as an opportunity to develop a domestic aerospace propulsion ecosystem while also creating capabilities that could eventually support wider defense and civil aerospace applications. The initiative aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives and the government’s efforts to strengthen domestic design and manufacturing capabilities in advanced propulsion technologies.
