BAE Systems has secured approximately $171 million in contracts to supply advanced programmable ammunition to Sweden and Finland, strengthening the two Nordic nations’ artillery, naval, and air defense capabilities. The agreements come as defense spending accelerates across Northern Europe in response to rising regional security concerns.

Signed with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, the contracts cover Bofors 40mm and 57mm 3P (pre-fragmented, programmable, proximity-fused) ammunition. These multi-role rounds are designed to counter a wide range of threats, including unmanned aerial systems, cruise missiles, fast attack craft, and ground targets, offering flexible engagement options in complex combat environments.

Under the deal, Sweden’s armed forces will add both 40mm and 57mm calibers to their inventories, while Finland’s navy will receive 57mm ammunition to replenish and expand existing stocks. The programmable rounds will be integrated across current platforms, including armored vehicles, naval gun systems, and ground-based air defense units, enhancing interoperability and readiness.

The latest contracts build on BAE Systems’ expanding presence in the Nordic defense market. Recent deals include a $62 million order for 155mm BONUS precision-guided artillery munitions from Sweden and a multi-billion-dollar CV9035 infantry fighting vehicle framework agreement with Sweden and Denmark, highlighting sustained regional demand for advanced land and air defense capabilities.
