The Indian Army is upgrading legacy ZU-23-2 air defence guns into modern counter-drone platforms. The upgrade integrates EO/IR targeting systems, thermal imaging, and laser range finders linked to digital fire control computers. Automated electric drive motors replace manual controls, enabling faster tracking and improved accuracy against drones and low-flying threats. With deployment of 142 upgraded units, the system enhances protection of critical infrastructure and aligns with broader modernization of Army Air Defence systems, including platforms like ZSU-23-4 Shilka.
