India is accelerating the development of advanced counter-drone and directed energy capabilities to address the growing threat of low-cost unmanned aerial systems. Emerging technologies such as laser weapons, micro-missile interceptors, and upgraded gun-based air defence systems are being integrated into a layered protection architecture. These solutions aim to provide cost-effective defence against drone swarms while reducing dependence on expensive interceptor missiles. The strategy reflects changing battlefield realities where mass drone attacks are becoming a major challenge for military forces worldwide.
