India has initiated development of an indigenous 105mm gun for the Zorawar Light Battle Tank program, aiming to reduce dependence on imported armament systems. The locally developed weapon is expected to replace the Belgian-origin Cockerill 3105 gun currently integrated into the Zorawar prototype. Jointly developed by DRDO and Larsen & Toubro, the Zorawar tank is designed for high-altitude warfare along the Line of Actual Control with China. Initial production batches are expected to retain imported systems, while later variants will gradually adopt locally produced components under India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat defense manufacturing strategy.
