FN Herstal has unveiled a new evolution of its iconic FN MAG machine gun, introducing a tactical variant tailored for modern combat environments increasingly reliant on advanced optics and enhanced ergonomics. The FN MAG Tactical with Long Rail retains the reliability and battlefield-proven performance of the original design while incorporating several practical upgrades requested by modern military users. At the center of the redesign is an extended mounting rail that allows operators to install multiple optical devices, including thermal and night-vision systems, without sacrificing access to traditional iron sights. The enhanced configuration reflects growing demand for machine guns capable of operating effectively in day-and-night combat conditions. Additional improvements include an ambidextrous feed cover latch, an automatic hold-open feature that simplifies weapon handling, and an adjustable stock that improves user comfort and shooting stability. Designed to remain compatible with existing MAG-family weapons such as the American M240 and British L7A2, the new variant offers militaries an efficient modernization pathway while preserving the performance characteristics that have made the FN MAG one of the world’s most successful general-purpose machine guns.
