The U.S. Marine Corps has moved forward with a major precision-strike enhancement by awarding Teledyne FLIR Defense a $42.5 million contract under the Organic Precision Fires-Light (OPF-L) program. The new order includes more than 600 Rogue 1 loitering munitions, along with support equipment, enabling small units to conduct independent long-range engagements. This major acquisition reflects a growing Pentagon focus on highly mobile precision systems that support distributed Marine operations.
According to Teledyne FLIR, the OPF-L program provides rifle squads and platoons with a portable loitering strike system that can seek, track and neutralize targets while offering commanders real-time decision authority at the tactical edge. As modern combat environments increasingly demand beyond-line-of-sight targeting and autonomous reconnaissance, the Marine Corps is shifting toward systems that shorten response time and reduce reliance on artillery or air support.
The delivery order, placed by Marine Corps Systems Command, marks the third procurement under the OPF-L initiative and includes training kits and ground control units. Field deployment of the Rogue 1 capability is expected to begin next summer. With the addition of these drones, Marines will gain a flexible strike solution that can rapidly launch, search for targets in complex terrain, and either deliver a precision attack or return to base. The contract also reinforces Teledyne FLIR’s position as a core supplier of advanced sensing and guided weapon technologies for U.S. defense modernization.
