Solar Defence and Aerospace Ltd. (SDAL) has announced that its indigenous Bhargavastra counter-swarm air defense system is approaching the final stage of developmental evaluation, with internal qualification activities expected to conclude within the next few months. The mobile platform has been engineered as a comprehensive hard-kill solution capable of defeating drone swarms, loitering munitions, and other low-altitude aerial threats. The integrated architecture combines surveillance radar, electro-optical and infrared tracking systems, passive RF sensors, an advanced command-and-control network, and multiple micro-missile launchers capable of rapid target engagement. Recent demonstrations validated the interoperability of all major subsystems, including target detection, tracking, fire-control coordination, and missile engagement. Engineers are also working to enhance interceptor range and improve multi-target response capability, ensuring the platform can address increasingly sophisticated autonomous threats. The program highlights India’s expanding expertise in indigenous counter-UAS technologies while supporting the country’s objective of building a layered air defense capability using domestically developed systems.
