Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall have launched a strategic industrial partnership to establish Europe’s first major production center for the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS), significantly expanding regional long-range strike manufacturing capacity. The new production facility in Germany will manufacture, integrate, and distribute precision-guided ballistic missiles for NATO members while supporting growing operational demand across Europe. Compatible with both HIMARS and M270 launch systems already fielded by numerous European militaries, ATACMS provides precision engagement against high-value command centers, logistics hubs, and strategic military infrastructure at extended ranges. The initiative strengthens Europe’s defense industrial resilience by reducing dependence on overseas production while supporting future missile manufacturing alongside guided rockets, precision air-to-ground missiles, and advanced air defense interceptors. The partnership represents a major step toward establishing a sustainable European long-range fires ecosystem capable of supporting alliance requirements for decades.
