Canada has reinforced the future combat capability of its F-35 fighter fleet by awarding Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace a major contract to supply Joint Strike Missiles (JSM). Designed specifically for integration within the F-35’s internal weapons bay, the stealth-compatible cruise missile provides long-range precision engagement against both maritime and land-based targets while preserving the aircraft’s low-observable characteristics. Equipped with advanced navigation systems, imaging infrared target recognition, and autonomous flight capabilities, the missile significantly expands the operational reach and survivability of Canada’s future fighter force. The acquisition complements the country’s broader fighter modernization program while enhancing NATO interoperability and strengthening Canada’s contribution to coalition precision strike operations. As one of the few advanced stand-off weapons optimized for fifth-generation aircraft, the JSM provides a critical capability for future multi-domain combat environments requiring high-precision attacks against heavily defended targets.
