The Netherlands has committed to purchasing €500 million ($577 million) worth of US-made weapons for Ukraine, becoming the first NATO ally to fully fund a package under a newly launched procurement initiative, the Dutch defense ministry announced.

This procurement will take place under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL)—a mechanism introduced last month by US President Joe Biden and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The initiative is designed to accelerate military aid to Ukraine by simplifying access to US defense stockpiles.

Through the PURL system, participating countries pay the United States directly for pre-stocked weapons and munitions, which are then quickly transferred to Ukrainian forces on the battlefield. This method ensures faster delivery compared to traditional supply routes.

With this move, the Netherlands reinforces its strong support for Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia, which began with the February 2022 invasion. The commitment highlights a growing effort among NATO members to streamline defense assistance for Kyiv.
