Canada and Australia have signed a $2.5 billion agreement to deliver a next-generation Over-the-Horizon Radar capability for Arctic surveillance. Based on technology derived from Australia’s Jindalee Operational Radar Network, the system will detect and track airborne and maritime threats at distances exceeding 3,000 kilometers. The project is expected to achieve initial operational capability by 2029 while supporting technological cooperation, domestic industrial development, and thousands of skilled jobs in both countries. The radar will significantly improve early warning capabilities across Canada’s northern approaches.
