Japan is advancing its electronic warfare (EW) capabilities through a strategic collaboration with Northrop Grumman. The partnership focuses on strengthening Japan’s ability to manage the full EW cycle, including detection, exploitation, deception, denial, and protection of friendly assets. Central to this effort are advanced systems such as CEESIM (Combat Electromagnetic Environment Simulator), which replicates complex combat scenarios with multiple electronic threats, and the Joint Threat Emitter (JTE), designed for realistic training against missile and artillery systems. CEESIM has supported multiple EW programs since 1983, including ALQ-series countermeasure systems and radar warning receivers. This collaboration comes amid rising Indo-Pacific tensions, particularly involving regional disputes in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait.
