Swedish defense firm Saab has signed a 510-million SEK ($54 million) contract with Denmark’s defense procurement agency to supply Carl-Gustaf M4 recoilless rifles, along with ammunition and training systems. Deliveries are scheduled between 2026 and 2028, strengthening Denmark’s dismounted anti-armor capabilities.

Denmark, which has operated the Carl-Gustaf system since the 1970s, locally known as the Dysekanon, adopted the M4 variant in 2022. The modernized version, introduced globally in 2014, weighs under 7 kilograms (15 pounds) and measures less than 1 meter in length, making it ideal for urban warfare and mobile operations.

The Carl-Gustaf M4 incorporates ergonomic improvements, including a Picatinny rail-mounted front grip and adjustable shoulder rest, providing operators with enhanced comfort and control. Its modular design supports a wide range of ammunition types, such as anti-armor, anti-structure, anti-personnel, smoke, and illumination rounds, giving troops maximum versatility on the battlefield.

A standout feature of the M4 is its compatibility with programmable and guided munitions, including the HE 448 and Guided Multipurpose Munition (GMM). These rounds enable precise engagement of both stationary and moving targets up to 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) away, offering dismounted soldiers greater accuracy, lethality, and survivability in complex combat scenarios.
