Finnish defense company Patria has formed a new partnership with Valmet Automotive to support technology transfer and the local production of Patria’s armored vehicles. The collaboration includes joint work on manufacturing processes and the production of the first batch of vehicles, although both companies have chosen not to reveal the financial terms of the agreement.

Under the plan, initial armored vehicles will be assembled at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki facility in southwest Finland starting in the second half of 2026. The cooperation aims to strengthen Finland’s domestic industrial capability while supporting Patria’s growing presence in the European armored vehicle market.

Patria’s 6×6 vehicle program has seen significant expansion across Europe in recent years. Sweden recently ordered 94 additional Patria 6×6 vehicles, raising its total to 321 units under a 2024 contract. The latest order, worth nearly 1.5 billion SEK ($160 million), brings Sweden’s total confirmed fleet to 415 vehicles scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2030.

Other European nations are also advancing their Patria programs. Latvia recently completed the transfer of 21 locally built Patria 6×6 APCs donated to Ukraine as part of a larger 42-vehicle commitment. Earlier in 2024, Denmark selected Patria to supply 129 CAVS 6×6 armored platforms, further solidifying the vehicle’s role as one of Europe’s leading multi-mission armored systems.
