The Indian Army has issued a Request for Information for 159 Bullet Proof Troop Carriers intended for Rashtriya Rifles units and associated headquarters operating in counter-insurgency and high-risk environments. The procurement falls under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category of the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020, emphasizing indigenous design, development, and manufacturing under the government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. Vendors are required to demonstrate the ability to sustain annual production rates of at least 60 vehicles while maximizing domestic content and technology ownership. The troop carriers are expected to provide enhanced protection against small-arms fire, improvised explosive devices, and ambush scenarios while maintaining mobility across difficult terrain. The program is likely to attract both public-sector and private-sector defense manufacturers, strengthening India’s domestic protected mobility ecosystem while improving survivability for frontline troops in operational theaters.
