India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation has introduced a new indigenous armored platform aimed at replacing the Indian Army’s aging BMP-2 fleet. Developed by the Vehicles Research & Development Establishment, the system is available in both tracked and wheeled variants. It currently features around 65% indigenous content, with plans to increase this to 90%. Built in collaboration with Bharat Forge Limited and Tata Advanced Systems Limited, the vehicle integrates a 30mm crewless turret equipped with a coaxial machine gun and anti-tank guided missiles. It offers high mobility, amphibious capability with optional hydro jets, and STANAG Level 4–5 protection. Under the Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle program, India plans to procure over 2,000 units, potentially expanding beyond 3,500 across variants.
