Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited has initiated a key modernization effort through an Expression of Interest for advanced electromagnetic turret traverse systems for T-72 and T-90 tanks. This upgrade replaces older hydraulic and legacy systems with high-precision electromagnetic assemblies, significantly improving turret rotation speed, accuracy, and stability. The initiative enhances integration with modern fire control systems, enabling better target tracking and higher first-round hit probability. Additional benefits include reduced acoustic and thermal signatures, contributing to improved survivability. The program also supports “silent watch” capability, allowing systems to operate without engine use. This effort aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, reducing reliance on foreign components and strengthening domestic defense manufacturing.
