Turkey has introduced the URAN vehicle-mounted 105mm artillery system, designed to enhance battlefield mobility and survivability through rapid “shoot-and-scoot” operations. Developed by state-owned MKE, the system is based on the BORAN howitzer but replaces traditional towing configurations with a wheeled vehicle-mounted setup. This transformation significantly reduces deployment and repositioning times, helping artillery units avoid detection by modern counter-battery radars capable of locating firing positions within seconds. The URAN system is optimized for fast-moving ground operations and reflects the increasing global focus on highly mobile artillery platforms suitable for modern high-intensity combat environments.
