German defense technology company HENSOLDT has installed the first TRL-4D LR long-range surveillance radar at Brockzetel in northern Germany under the HADR NF modernization program. The initiative aims to replace Germany’s aging Hughes air defense radar infrastructure with advanced active electronically scanned array (AESA) systems capable of improved airspace surveillance and tracking. The radar installation involved transporting and assembling large-scale components, including a 13-tonne antenna housed within a radome exceeding 13 meters in diameter. The Brockzetel deployment will operate as an interim solution until permanent radar towers are completed. The broader program forms part of Germany’s effort to strengthen national air defense and monitoring capabilities amid heightened European security concerns.
