Lithuania is investing 12 million euros ($13.7 million) to establish a specialised facility for repairing critical components of its CAESAR artillery systems. The project will give the Lithuanian Armed Forces a domestic maintenance capability for key electronic and hydraulic equipment used by the French-made artillery platforms. Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence has signed an industrial cooperation agreement with KNDS France covering construction and outfitting of dedicated repair workshops. The facility will allow critical components to be serviced within Lithuania rather than being shipped abroad, potentially reducing turnaround times and improving the technical availability of the country’s CAESAR fleet. The investment will cover workshop infrastructure and specialised maintenance equipment. Lithuanian personnel will also undergo training to acquire the technical skills required to inspect, repair and maintain the systems. The ministry said Lithuania would become the first country to receive French technical expertise specifically for repairing the CAESAR’s electronic and hydraulic components. CAESAR in Lithuanian ServiceThe CAESAR is a French-developed 6×6 wheeled self-propelled howitzer manufactured by KNDS France. Its wheeled architecture provides high road mobility while retaining the firepower of a conventional 155mm artillery system. Lithuania first committed to the CAESAR Mk II programme in 2022, planning to acquire 18 systems while participating in France’s development effort for the next-generation configuration. In December 2025, Lithuania placed an order for a second batch under a contract worth approximately 252 million euros ($289 million). That package includes training, simulators and spare parts in addition to the industrial cooperation arrangement supporting the new domestic repair facility.
