L3Harris has unveiled Wraith Shield, an AI-powered software upgrade that transforms tactical radios into distributed counter-drone sensing nodes. Integrated into existing communication systems, the technology uses radio frequency sensing and advanced signal analysis to detect and classify drone-related electromagnetic activity. Connected radios share data across battlefield networks, creating a layered and distributed air threat awareness system. Working alongside DataShapes AI’s visualization software, Wraith Shield converts RF signals into actionable intelligence displayed directly on soldier devices without relying on centralized cloud processing. The system is initially being deployed on the RF-9820S Compact Team Radio and will eventually support over 100,000 fielded radio systems compatible with the legacy Wraith platform. The capability reflects growing military demand for scalable, software-based counter-drone defenses embedded directly within frontline communications infrastructure.
