KNDS is preparing to integrate its lightweight 105mm 105 LG artillery gun into Poland’s domestic defence ecosystem and connect the weapon to the country’s TOPAZ digital fire-control network. The German-French defence company has signed a Letter of Intent with Polish defence technology firm WB GROUP covering potential supply, local integration and support for the Polish Armed Forces. Under the proposed arrangement, KNDS and WB GROUP would create a turnkey artillery capability incorporating Polish technologies and designed to operate with TOPAZ. The objective is to develop a digitally connected artillery solution adapted to Polish operational requirements. No purchase contract or quantity has been announced at this stage. KNDS has also indicated that it is prepared to localise production of ERG3 long-range ammunition for the 105 LG. If implemented, domestic ammunition production would further expand the Polish industrial contribution to the system. The proposed cooperation builds on KNDS’ existing relationship with Poland, including industrial activities involving the maintenance and modernisation of Leopard 2 main battle tanks. 105 LG CharacteristicsThe 105 LG is a lightweight towed artillery weapon designed to provide 105mm firepower to units that cannot easily accommodate heavier artillery systems. It weighs 1,650 kilograms (3,637 pounds), allowing it to be transported by air, including by medium-lift helicopters. This mobility makes the gun suitable for airborne and air-mobile formations operating in locations where larger artillery pieces would be difficult to deploy. When firing KNDS ERG3 ammunition, the 105 LG has a stated maximum range of up to 17 kilometres (10.56 miles). KNDS lists a burst firing capability of six rounds in 15 seconds and a sustained rate exceeding 16 rounds per minute. The company says the artillery system is already used by national guard forces. Its design emphasises straightforward operation and maintenance, which is intended to reduce training requirements and support operational readiness.
