American Rheinmetall will manufacture 3,104 MK93 weapon mounts and modernize another 245 units under a $20.7 million US Army contract. Production and upgrades will take place at the company’s Maine facility through October 2027, with deliveries expected to start in 2026. The award was placed through defense contractor ADS and the Defense Logistics Agency. American Rheinmetall stated that the systems will meet US Army requirements but did not disclose the specific platforms or units that will receive them. The MK93 is a dual-purpose weapon mount designed to accommodate the M2 heavy machine gun and MK19 40mm automatic grenade launcher. Its soft-mount configuration helps absorb recoil, providing greater stability and supporting improved firing accuracy. Rheinmetall introduced an MK93 upgrade package in 2018 that replaced the original internal cradle with a redesigned mechanism aimed at lowering recoil and improving accuracy. The modernization package also introduced a shoulder bar intended to improve weapon control and reduce fatigue for the operator. The contract adds to American Rheinmetall’s growing US defense manufacturing portfolio. In September, the company delivered the first of eight Lynx XM30 prototype vehicles to the US Army for government developmental and performance testing. The Lynx is being developed as a potential replacement for the M2 Bradley under Team Lynx, led by American Rheinmetall with US industrial partners. During the same month, the US Marine Corps awarded the company a $7.28 million contract covering 12 Mission Master SP autonomous unmanned ground vehicles and five amphibious kits. Earlier in July, the US Army selected American Rheinmetall to supply hybrid-powered autonomous UGVs for logistics operations, with Harbinger, Forterra, and Primordial Labs supporting the project.
