The US Army is advancing its weapons technology through a partnership with industry leaders to develop a next-generation small arms barrel. This initiative focuses on improving durability and resistance to wear under high-pressure conditions. Working with Carpenter Technology and Geissele Automatics, the Army developed a new alloy known as GNB 200, which offers enhanced strength and performance. The project involved extensive testing and refinement to ensure the material could withstand the demands of modern combat. The new barrels demonstrated improved performance during testing, particularly in machine guns. This development highlights the importance of innovation in maintaining the effectiveness of military equipment.
