Saft has entered into a new agreement with Naval Group to provide high-performance lithium-ion battery systems for future Barracuda and Scorpene submarine programs. The advanced energy storage technology represents a significant improvement over conventional lead-acid batteries by offering higher energy density, faster recharge capability, longer operational endurance, and improved lifecycle efficiency while meeting stringent naval safety requirements. Entire battery production, including electrochemical cell manufacturing, will remain under Saft’s direct control to ensure consistent quality and reliability. The partnership supports Naval Group’s ongoing submarine modernization efforts while introducing next-generation energy technologies that improve underwater endurance, operational flexibility, and overall mission effectiveness for future conventional and nuclear-powered submarine fleets.
